The South Area Business Association has a long history of development activities, networking and community service. Over time, the association has evolved to focus on networking, educational programs for members, and community service. In recent years, community service has focused on scholarships, food pantry support, and giving to some other charitable needs.
Networking opportunities are offered at monthly luncheons, an annual dinner, a summer picnic and holiday event.
Educational topics are included with each monthly luncheon, and topics have ranged from local tourism and business development to highway and transportation updates for the region. In 2008 the association offered a fall workshop with more concentrated education topics, and this is planned to be repeated in 2009.
For many years high school students in local school districts have been the recipients of scholarships from the South Area Business Association. Members’ children or their employees’ children are eligible for the awards. In some cases, the award has gone to students majoring in a business field of study. Bowling and golf fundraisers are offered during the year to support the scholarships. |
